Well, I have to share that right now I am going through a difficult time as D and I are getting a divorce. Its a shame to me that things cannot be worked out, but with extreme lifestyle differences and raising a child are getting extremely tough. I pray that every day I get through this, and the choice was definitely not an easy one. If I could use anything right now, it would be the love and support of my friends. So if any of you out there can, please dont be hesitant to say hello. Know that I am still here its just that I am a little down right now.

Well, shoot! I missed an opportunity to post at least something and here we are now in the middle of May! Today, I have a new Great Nephew (his name is yet to be determined) he was 8 lbs 14 oz and 21 inches long. What an exciting day! Babies are always a good thing and even though I can no longer contribute to the world population directly, I always love a new born baby! :) Hopefully I will get some pictures soon!
Other than that, life is moving along now and summer is fast approaching. No new plans yet, just working and trying to remember what I ate for breakfast (inside joke). Let me see if I can dig up a few photos for entertainment: :)

Lent 2010 Countdown

As I sip my coffee this morning, I figured it was a good time to review this years Lenten sacrifice and what I learned from it. As that is the point of Lent, to give new meaning, or a renewed spiritual sense of purpose to your life. With that in mind, I decided that giving up chocolate or soda was not something that, I did not feel, would meet these qualifications and fulfill my spiritual needs. So I decided to give up using Facebook (found out later the Vatican thought it was a good idea too!)for Lent. I was really hoping for some spiritual enlightenment!....I think this has been the best choice ever!

I decided at the beginning, that I would not say anything about it to anyone, as I was convinced that I just needed to "do it". Well, I have to say it was hard for the first few days, resisting the urge to check out what my family and friends were doing. To help me resist temptation, I decided to remove the app from my I-phone (which was a great idea!) I think I went unnoticed for a few days, but then I started receiving the email updates on my I-phone when someone posted something on my site. I almost went back in there to change the settings, but figured, well that would be cheating.... So, I left it alone. Eventually word got around, as noted on my site by some of my closest relatives ~ Thank you for looking out for me!

I was actually grateful for leaving it alone as there were a few times when I found it very handy to see when someone was really needing to get in touch with me. I started me thinking of all the reasons why Facebook was created in the first place. (positive side only ~ please)

1. To keep in touch with friends and family around the world. (For me, this is so true!) I have been able to "meet" relatives that I have only heard mention of their names. Some I have fostered relationships with, (and someday hope to visit) and some have become part of my "family communications tree". You know, the ones that are really busy so you just leave them updates to respect their busy lives, and know somewhere down the line they will return the favor.
2. To find old friends - This has been true as well. Its amazing where your life can go, and when finding old friends from school, or childhood chums and what is going on in their lives now, it makes you feel (pardon the pun) connected!
3. Networking - This is also true, as co-workers can get to know you better outside of work and can create more commraderie during work hours.

I don't think I left any of the positive things of using Facebook out, and I am sure the negatives (for me) will not hinder me yet from continuing to use it. I guess I need to focus on what I actually did while on hiatus!

I have read some great books (mostly audio as I can listen to them just about anywhere on my iPhone) and I focused my energy on reading/listening to stuff that made me think about where my spiritual level was at this point in my life and the direction in which I feel pulled. I attended an all day seminar at church the first weekend of Lent, which gave me great insight into the religious history of the Catholic church and helped me start looking for where it is that I can become "connected" within the parish. I had thought that while I was already volunteering as a 5th grade CCE teacher, that that was "enough", and somehow realized that I had it in my head that "doing" was all that was necessary to feel fulfilled spiritually. In one of the audio tapes that I had been listening to for finding a higher level of spirituality, I learned that we are "human beings" and if we could learn to focus on the "being" part, we would become spiritually fulfilled as we were created. This piece of information, almost made me "quit" being a 5th grade CCE teacher, until I realized that this was not what they meant. What they meant was that what ever we do in life "naturally", is part of the "being" and so a person could "grow" from that in many directions. Plus, I had to ask myself, Did I really enjoy teaching that class? And "Yes" was the answer.
One of the other things I have done while not being engrossed in Facebook, was to start seeing a psychologist. This was brought on by my epiphany that my life in general, was not going in the direction that I wanted and that I have been "stuffing" some emotional issues that would not allow me to be "me", and that I needed some help. Depression has been part of it, and I have also had my regular Dr prescribe some medication to help with some anxiety issues. The conversations with the therapist and the medication, have helped me begin to figure "me" out. It still will probably take a little longer than 40 days for this part, but it has been well worth the time and "investment".
Wow, after reading some of this, one would think that I "dumped" my kids during my quest! Well, that has definitely not been true. During my time away from Facebook, we have been on vacation with the kids, and I have some "quality" one on one time with them as they still need me too! I got a chance to visit with an old friend while on vacation ~ that I have not seen in 3 years! We vowed to each other that we would not let that happen again and have some tentative plans to go camping in the summer! It was this friend that was able to tell me what my 2 Joys that the therapist was trying to get me in touch with. Outdoors and photography. I told her "You mean I had to come all the way to Phoenix to get this lesson?" I was relieved when she told me that. I remember feeling that lightbulb turning on again and we had a good laugh. It was this trip that I promised to eventually let her teach me how to scuba dive. (one day there will be more on this topic!)
Other things that I have been doing, helping out my friends. I have a dear friend that is moving into town, so this last week I have been helping her with her garage sale and even packed up her kitchen for her and helped get stuff put away in her new place. I wish I could have done more for her as I will miss our front porch gatherings and being able to share good neighborly visits, but know that she is not far away. She is the kind of person that gives what she has to everyone she meets. She has been another inspiration to me in my quest for higher spiritual changes, she lives what she says and does so with dignity and grace.
With so many choices for me to learn to just "be", it has inspired me to volunteer on a larger scale outside of my usual self. I have now volunteered for becoming a bereavement minister at our parish (training begins monday night) as well as volunteering at the local hospital (not sure yet where they will put me). These are two areas that have always interested me in volunteering my time in a way that I know I can "give back" from my true self. As well as inspire my kids to follow along in whatever they are supposed to "be" in this world. I am prayng for continued guidance that by doing so, I will find even greater levels in my spiritual growth and inspire others around me to do the same.

As far as Facebook, I will happily log on tomorrow with a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm. I know that this is just the "beginning" of this spiritual journey, and I have truly enjoyed taking the time off of Facebook to really "take stock" of myself. ( and "No" I am not done yet!)I hope that everyone that participated in this years Lenten sacrifice, has truly found their way on a new path of spiritual enlightenment, or at least has felt its glimmer of hope.

Well, I made it! Another year older and I am still here to live to tell about it. Then again, I still have the rest of the day to figure out what will happen next. Yes, I said I would be posting some pictures of the Phoenix trip, but will need to do that later. Me and the girls are going to get pedicures and then we are going to play laser tag! Woo Hoo! I never did that before so I thought that would be a really fun thing to do today! Went to church last night so I did not have to go today. Life is okay right now and on an even pace to where I do not feel as overwhelmed as I can most of the time. I am still working on that piece! Living my life as honestly as I can is always my focus, but sometimes the pain of reality can really hurt! (only when I let it!)

Home Sweet Home

Well, we got back today and have to go back to work and school. Am too tired to start posting pictures, but here is a summary of what we did while in Phoenix..... Went to 2 Cubs games (they won the first and lost the second) horseback riding, went hiking, sightseeing in Jerome Az., went swimmimg, sat in the jacuzzi, went to the movies, found some great tea at a mall. Went to the IMAX to see Avatar, took the kids to an amusement park and the movies. Took lots of pictures of saguaro's and on the way home, we went to the Sonoran Desert Museum (located outside of Tucson)which is one of my absolutely favorite museums. Oh and saw the Thunderbird's flying in formation at an air show in Tucson. Also, got a bad sunburn which is not a lot of fun right now. More later! Love Sheila

Land of the living

Sorry that I didn't post anything after the last post. I have been busy
getting some writing and work done. My journey is moving along
fairly well. It's been great having my relatives and friends rally around
me. You never know how much the power of prayer truly can help!
For that I am truly grateful. We will be going to Phoenix this evening
for Springbreak. Getting to see the Cubs twice will be a real treat!
Also taking the kids hiking and horseback riding. We also will be taking
the "good camera" so I hope to have some really good pictures to post.

Two posts in one day!

Wow! I can hardly contain myself! Two posts in one day! For me that is amazing. My friends will be proud ~ or bored.... In any event, I went to two Dr's today. One to get some blood work done and discuss a plan to address my depression.....The second Dr to start helping with the "depression". I think the second one was more fun ~ and I have homework. I have to think and write about 2 things that would give me joy this week. So........First I need to define (in my head) the difference between being happy and being filled with joy. And I guess there is a difference, but I never looked at life this way before and have an MBA so I need to work on this. Then after finding the difference, I will need to decide the part where I can write what gives me joy. Hmmm! I have a lot to think about..

Drs versus my sanity

Ever have one of those days when you know that you are not "well" and everyone around you knows you are not "well", but no one but you says anything about it?

I realized last night, and after a Drs appt on Monday, that I need to get some things in order with my life. I could try and say, "no more excuses", but that would not be very "human" of me to admit to. So, with a box of kleenex and a good long cry, yes, I finally admitted that I need to take some action today.

I called my Dr and they squeezed me in at 11:30 AM (Lord knows when I will actually get in there! LOL) I feel pretty good about my decision to go in and will try not to "take control" in my head. I have already done a lot of praying to get things flowing in a positive way, but will now log off to do some more for good measure!

Hello there!

Well, I was recently informed that I needed
to post on my blog. Sorry, guess I have not paid
too much attention to all of this stuff lately. In fact,
I have given up a particular social media for lent,
as I was trying to refocus my efforts on other
things. Like oh I don't know, prayer and saving my soul.

With this in mind, I will post a note to say that the start
of this years 40 days is proving to be an emotional
challenge. One that will take some time for me
to sift through a lot.

Hooray! Recovery Post OP 1 Month

Okay, I think I am managing to come out of this hormonal depression....... for now. I have been talking a lot with my "sisters" and feel so much better about this recovery process. Its nice to be able to "share" the stuff no one else wants to know ~ or care about. We have had some pretty interesting and inspiring conversations, as well as sharing a lot of laughter. What I have discovered lately is that there is no right or wrong answer to how to proceed, but that all of us are different with where we are at in our "recoveries". So far, from what I can tell, I am right in there with everyone else as far as being on track to be able to return to life. I just want to make my life better. I am going to the gym today and promised my cousin not to set the incline on the treadmill. She said she would tell my Dr and I know she means it! I cannot wait until I get the greenlight to swim again. I always feel better in the pool (plus I think I get a pretty good workout). Since Roo gets out of school at noon today, I will let her go "rock wall climbing" while I do my usual walk. I have to settle for that now, but just wait..... I have been eyeing the racquetball courts, basketball and weight rooms too! Happy rainy day today :)

Okay, I have really had it with the garbage I have read about having the surgery and all the stupid depressing things that come with it! I refuse to think about any of it right now, because it just seems pointless. So....... as I sit here, by myself wondering what to do next....(that I can't do yet) Now seems like a good time to just practice what I told myself I would do for recovery. Read that book, organize those photos, take an inventory of all of my music. Write more often, pick up the guitar (nope can't do that yet,Ughhh!) While I am deciding what the heck to do with my spare time, please amuse yourselves with the pictures of our latest trip to the Caverns!

Bored, In Pain and Numb

I was hoping to be able to post something before I had surgery, but since I am now 1 week and 1/2 into recovery, I haven't been feeling like doing ANYTHING. I know it will pass, but I was hoping to be able to read at least a book. I can't get out of this funky, pain medicine induced, coma feeling. Everyone is back at school and work and here I sit, lay down or stand, while trying to get back to a normal routine. I was told the first two weeks would be the hardest, but this stinks! Wish me luck I am going back to bed with my new friend "the heating pad". think I will name her "Hilda". Sounds appropriate! See ya later! S

The countdown begins!

Well, I had my pre-op appt. this morning..... Glad the surgeon was having as much fun with his paperwork as I was with mine. We laughed a bit over that, shaking our heads as thousands of trees gave their lives to make sure we humans "keep our sh*t together". Then on to the business of how he will be doing the procedure. (won't know until he is in there). I wonder if I should request some background music? Maybe some Led Zepplin playing while I drift in and out of consciousness?
Yes, I am a bit apprehensive, but know that if I wait any longer to go through with it, I will have bigger problems. Here's a funny.... When I called in to have a case created for short term disability, they told me that 24 hours after my surgery I would get a call from my case worker. Well, 24 hours after I got a case number the case worker called! LOL! She asked me how I was. I said "Oh I'm doing ok". Then she said. "How was the surgery?" I said, "I don't have it until Feb 12th" Stunned dead silence ensued..... then a laugh came through. "Oh my goodness, I forgot to check the date on this case. I hope you will forgive me." I laughed and said "Well, it certainly is nice to meet you before all of the stuff happens. This way, I will remember your voice." It was really nice to know that someone was kind enough to call. LOL! And it was really pretty funny! I really hope I am able to answer the phone when she calls.
This is a big deal. I will no longer be able to have kids. That in itself for any woman is a big deal. No more options on that one. I resigned myself to the fact a while back, but next week, it will be final. It is a good thing at this point in my life. There are so many women in this world that can't have kids that may not think of it as something positive.
This just means that I am entering something new for my life. (with drugs which I never had before) Well, gotta go eat dinner. I will write more later

New Year! Another Chance to make some changes!

Well, I just looked at my last post which was from Nov 2008! I would say I am embarassed, but what the heck! Just says that life around here has been really busy! Hmmmm! Which brings up some questions? Will I post more often? Will I finally get my system synchronized so I can upload more pictures? Will I remember anything? LOL! Guess we shall see. Here are some of the things I hope to do this fine year of 2009;

Sleep - Get some more this year. My poor husband has sleep apnea so the tests show we might actually get some more sleep this year! (plus a little machine to help in that dept)
Slow down a little? - Probably not. Worth a shot since I will be out of commission for 6 weeks starting Feb 12th! My brain and body do not like to slow down. Its a burden I have had to learn to deal with most of my life. LOL! Even my surgeon says I am One Tough Lady!
Have fun with family! This is always a must. This year, with new family members living here, this will definitely be a lot of fun! (at least for me!) I know that I have entered the "Crazy Aunt Sheila" zone with my nieces and nephews, but at least I contribute something to their memories of their relatives. (should I buy a lampshade and tiara?)
I would love to write a bunch of "To Do" Stuff, but I gave all of that up since it causes enough stress.
Take more pictures ~ This is a definite Must and I will get some help from my girls since they are always snapping away at something.
Just be me! Gotta love that one as that is a never ending boring process!

Okay, now I am off to get started on my Spring Closet Round-up!

Polarized Express

So on the cynical side of life.........Here in our town, a group of savy people got together this year, to actually create a Christmas experience with a train and couple passenger cars for their own version of the Polar Express. Sounds like a great idea right? People would get to ride a train for 45 minutes and meet up with Santa and his elves and get treated to hot chocolate and a cookie, just like in the movie. That sounded like a great plan for a festive celebration this year. So....... after I found the phone number to call to book 3 tickets, I found an online reservation site that allowed a person to be able to fill out info and be contacted back to book our trip. Sounded like a great idea, since I tried calling the number and kept getting a busy signal. I booked a trip for Sunday Nov 23rd for 3 for the 8 PM tour. I thought we were "in". According to the online info, it stated not to bother calling in regarding tours if you sent in your online reservation and that everyone would be contacted. Well, as you might have guessed, no one ever called and now we were told that they were booked up. Not sure how that happened, but I know that other people were not happy with this part. So, either I call in to complain, or chalk it up to this group not knowing how to manage how popular this event would be? Hmmmmm, I am still deciding.

Patiently Cleaning! And Waiting!.....

Well, the moment will arrive sometime tomorrow. The day my cousin and her family are scheduled to arrive here in West Texas. We have been busy moving, cleaning, buying, and making room here in our home for our honored guests. Reminds me of the true coming of Christmas and how we all go through what we go through, to celebrate Christs coming. So lots of patience is needed, with preparations for their arrival. Sprinkled with doses of reality of our expectations of what will happen (what we will receive). How we can spread that good cheer all around, even when things don't go as planned.
So while they are still on the road here, I pray for safe travel, patience on the long drive. With a reward of loving arms to welcome them, food to eat, shelter and a safe warm bed to sleep in at night. May God watch over you while travelling.

On that note, I have a cousin, her husband and their 2 year old little girl, that, hopefully will be moving here to Texas! They currently live in North Carolina and we would love to have them live closer to us, as we are limited with having direct family relatives nearby. Soooooo..... Needless to say, I have been rearranging and going through cupboards to get "baby safe" again! I haven't had to do that in so long that I barely remember what I need. Ahhh, God has been really a big help to me! Silently pointing out things I need to do and take care of. I really hope that we get to have them here for a while. I can't wait for the nightly card games and fun stuff my cousin and I will get to do again. She mentioned something about signing up to relearn how to crochet and knit again..... we shall see how that goes. Life around here is a lot slower pace, so it will be great to share sunsets on the front porch with relatives! And, to have a little one running around again, that I can play with! The fall weather is here, but we don't get much color turning (not a lot of trees! LOL!) Maybe some day as my little trees grow.

One of those Nights

I am not sure if it is just a fluke, or my illness kicking in? I cannot seem to get to sleep, so I guess I will write a little. I am feeling uneasy, almost as if my world is about to blow up. Not sure what it is, but its a feeling I have had before. A long time ago, when I went through the same thing.
My heart has been racing, and I feel an impeding sense of doom. Why? Perhaps because it is that same time of year? Like the last time. I have a lot of energy as my mind races by with thoughts of utter chaos. I am feeling like I need to sleep, but when I close my eyes, they flash open wide as if I am expecting someone, or something to provide me with ominous news.
With my arms wrapped tightly around my body, I am trying to comfort myself by repeating that I am not alone. God is with me. Just by saying those words, I am relaxing, but the feeling that some big change is going to happen is still there. Lurking in my subconcious. Which makes me even more afraid to close my eyes and try to sleep.
I have to have faith.

End of Summer Recap

Well, I haven't written in a while. I have been way too busy to sit down and just type. A lot is going on and before you know it, I will have way too much stuff to say in one post!

My parents anniversary party was a lot of fun! Among my brothers and sister and I, we were actually able to plan a nice get together and not have to "run" too much. I will post pictures later as I am too tired right now to download anything.

It was fun seeing my relative's that I don't get a chance to see very often. We can see that all of us are getting older, grayer, etc. I think the best thing was the chance for the kids to meet, and finally get a chance to see the people that we talk about, when we reminisce about our childhood days. 50 years together is a very long time. When I looked at my parents wedding pictures and looked at the relatives in those pictures, I tried to imagine what the day was like then. It looked a lot simpler back then, with just a camera, instead of a video camera or camera phone. People looked like they really took pride in wearing nice clothes then and that there seemed to be a sense of "order" to how lives were lived.

My parents wedding reception was held in the backyard of my Mom's parents backyard. They had a church wedding, and my Mom said, that before her Dad walked her down the aisle, he kept telling her they had to hurry up and get back to work. (He was a barber and had his own shop, and he did have to go back to work that day) My Mom told me she got mad at him and told him that if he didn't stop saying that, she would walk down the aisle without him. Her older sister was her Matron of Honor, and wore a blue dress that was beautiful.

For the 50th Anniversary Mass that was said at St Patricks church in Hartland, my parents had 7 priests on the altar to help celebrate. These men that showed up, have been some of my parents best friends over the years, for all the work that they do. It was great to see them on the altar offering their services to help celebrate this great event. For all of the different organizations my parents have been a part of over the years, and have invested so many volunteer hours with, you would think they would have thousands of people they wanted to invite to their 50th anniversary party. That was not the case, we did have a lot of people, but family was what they wanted most there. That being our family of relatives and close people from church and neighbors that we have all grown up with over the years.

When it was all over with, they were very happy with what we (the children) were able to put on for them. We all had a great time that day. Wish I had more time to spend with every one, as with so many family and friends around, (and watching the food trays to fill) I didn't think I got enough time in talking with them. Well, at least I have more email addresses and updated address list for this years Christmas list. LOL!

Is it me or is everything moving to fast?

I suppose its just me, but time is really flying now, as its July 20th and by the end of this week Roo and I will be on our way up to IL.. Should be fun in our new Honda CRV (with moon roof!) I hope the weather will be good to us while we drive. We have been looking forward to this all summer. I have so many cool relatives (just talked to one a little while ago that lives in Florida) It will be nice to be able to meet for a fun occasion instead of having to say goodbye to someone (funeral). My brothers and sister have been awesome putting this thing together. The countdown begins!

Well, obviously I have been really bad at posting lately. Thank goodness no one looks at this thing! LOL I am happy to have a place that lets me vent. Energy has been lacking for me lately. When I look at my last post I can hardly believe it has been since April. Well, on that note, I still haven't gotten to see my new great nephew Shannen, but I will the end of July. We are celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 2nd. My brothers and sister and I have been putting the celebration together and sending out the invitations. This will truly be a celebration of marriage, since they have been together for so long. My parents are both in their 70's. If things go well with me and my husband for that long, we will be in our 80's (or at the end of it)! It has been fun calling those that I seriously haven't talked to in 30 years, and I certainly look forward to seeing them. Also, I will have an accurate updated Christmas address list for the upcoming year! Now, if I could just keep the rest of me going we will be all set! Ha! Ha! I can't wait for the drive. My Mr D started a new job at the University so he will have to fly on the Friday before and leave on Sunday. I will be driving with Roo a week earlier and come back a week later. (2 weeks off with pay! Wahoo!) My other daughter will be coming up with her friend and staying a few days. We are staying at one of my brothers as I helped arranged for some other older relatives coming from far away, to stay at my parents. I am sure they will like the peace and tranquility there. Okay, I think I am done ranting for now.

Well, it is official! I am a Great-Aunt now! I don't have any pictures yet, but my niece Alice, gave birth to her first baby this afternoon. We are all very excited and wished we lived closer to be able to go and see him. I don't have any other information yet as my Mom called me as I was leaving work for the day. Hope to have more information soon!

Celebrating another successful trip around the Sun!

Well, I made it another year on this planet officially at 8:45 PM (CST) I will be 45. So my theme this year is "45 and still alive". It's funny how just yesterday I was only 25. That age to me was a growing age, but I can honestly say I love where I am at now. I am more comfortable with myself, including all of my quirks. I love my family, and I seem to stress less about life in general. That doesn't mean things don't bother me, (as my body tells me, as I find that I tend to "stuff" things inside sometimes) I find that I question the behavior of myself and others more. Not to judge, but to understand what is going on with them and myself. I no longer think that I need to jump in and "save" anyone with their problems. I do empathisize, but see at this point, that just "being" is usually all that is needed. I am wondering what this next year will bring for me, as financially and personal growth as well as health issues seem to be on the rise. At least, that is what I am thinking is going on right now.
I trust that God will have a plan for all of this. For now, I just need a nap!

Diving anyone?

So.....my husband's brother calls up last week and asked him if he had vacation time and if he would like to go on a diving trip (brother just had neck surgery so he couldn't go). Of course it is a trip of a lifetime....... 10 days in Puerta Galera......which is........in the Phillippines. You can track his adventures by checking out the link on my blog to Bucketlist1000 title of blog is Delusions of Grandeur...........Thank you, Thank you....I helped come up with the names for his blog and the title. :)

I of course, am having adventures here at home, by keeping up with everyone's schedules, dogs, and general maintenance. I even had time to interview for a new position at work. (I think I have a pretty good shot at it, but we shall see)

Anyway, its time to get ready for an indoor soccer game for Roo.

Eggroll Sunday?

Well, this has been a nice weekend. I literally, did not have to work anywhere. Probably, because I am so wiped out still. Oh well, anyway, after church today, Noodles suggested we make eggrolls. So.......she put the mix together and Roo and I sat and made eggrolls. I haven't eaten any yet, but I know they will be good. I am thinking of taking a nap in a little bit. Doesn't my life sound great? Or...boring.
This week is Valentine's Day. I hope everyone has a great one. For me, I hope it is a quiet one. Sounds grumpy doesn't it? Not really, I am just tired.

Congratulations Roo!

Who ever thought that a Science Project titled: "Germs Eek!" could win at the Science Fair!
We are so proud of Roo, as she got 3rd place in her grade in the Science Fair. She will now be able to present her project at Texas Tech's Science fair sometime in February. She worked very hard on the project! She wanted to find out which of the two fifth grade class room environments had the most germs. She used class records from both teachers, as well as a few petrie dishes with swabs from the walls and such and was able to determine that the "other" 5th grade class had the most kids that got sick as they had more germs!
Now, this might not be something that a Pulitzer prize winner would do, but we are waiting to see if she will take this in a new direction next year and come up with some antidotes.
For now, Congratulations Roo!

As you can see, chow time is serious business. I will have to ask how many buckets of cat food and how long it took to feed all of the hungry cats, but I'll bet it took a very long time.

This is a picture of the supply tent. As you can see, this is a massive effort that is ongoing and they are taking donations of money, cat food, etc. Their plan was to go in and provide health examinations, food, and love to the cats and then see if they can find homes for all of them. If you visit the Best Friends website (posted as one of my links) you can make your tax free donations, or even volunteer to help. I will check on the latest count of adopted cats. I thought Meowzer had said they were able to place 125 cats already.

This was the mobile command center, where everyone checked in and found out where they would be assigned for their jobs. Meowzer said it was amazing how fast they were able to set-up assistance to be able to help these wonderful cats. Otherwise they might all have been euthanized.

Well, there is so much to say about all of the wonderful work by "Meowzer" and her Best Friends Pal's. I will let the photo's speak for themselves, but would like to preface by saying (too many to post) that there were over 700 cats that were rescued, after a person, thinking they were helping, hoarded these wonderful cats, but could not keep up with all of their needs. By the way, they are adoptable! :) Enjoy!

Tomorrow, I will be posting some photos a dear friend of mine at work, was able to take when she travelled to Pahrump Nevada. She is a volunteer for Best Friends, and went there to assist with the Great Cat Rescue. This person is a true inspiration to me, as she takes on a lot of jobs that some people might not want to do. She gives a lot of her "vacation time" to animals in need and reminds us what special creatures we all are. These pictures will give a glimpse of the type of work she and her other volunteers do, and of course, if anyone out there is doing the same, feel free to post a message. This is such important work! Keeping Busy!

Well, it has been a bit (again) since I have posted. Needless to say we have been busy! Not travelling, just keeping up with things around the house. Today, I even got some house painting done because I had to give up on trying to put up Roo's new basketball backboard. I couldn't figure out the directions, but had managed to take the old backboard off of the portable post that came with the old one (which is broken). I tried not to bug Mr D. because he was busy this weekend with plumbing troubles due to us having to put in a new how water heater (unexpectedly of course!) So...... hopefully, we will get that new backboard ready as next weekend will be Roo's birthday party, which we intend to have a lot of activities including an evening campfire complete with s'more's and old fashioned ghost stories! If anyone, knows of any really good stories (scarey or otherwise) Please post them! I will try them out with the kids and then post the reactions! :)

Don't worry, I was driving and he even made a friend of the bartender who is a US citizen that came over from Turkey. The people that work at Rawhide are really nice. This was our last stop before we had to mosey back out on I10 to beat the traffic back to the West side of Phoenix.

Okay, now here is where I had to question the authenticity of a camel at Rawhide, but apparently this camel is a former movie star. He was in the Mummy and Mummy returns. Yes, Phoenix is in a desert so perhaps that is why the camel was there. He even got a 10 minute break from people every two hours, so he was "performing" under contract. Complete with stubborness. If ever ya get a chance to visit "Rawhide" it is a pretty fun place to take the kids. Of course, they moved it from the old place (over by Scottsdale) but on the south side of Phoenix, the new place by Chandler, is really cool. They are open in the afternoon into evening (probably too hot to go out). As it was Springbreak they opened at 2 PM.

One morning, while on our trip we took Roo out for her first horseback trail ride. It was a beautiful morning that was cool and then heated up for our 2 hour ride through the South Mountain National Park. Roo's horse was named Mulie, I rode Wanda, and Mr D rode "Grass". Let's start off with my 10th wedding anniversary trip that we took in the middle of March. It was great! We went to my father-in-laws house as my 9 yr old was on springbreak and I was wanting to go to take in a Spring Training game. We also did lots of fun stuff too!

With most of the nation being below zero or well below the "normal" temperature for this time of year, I thought I would share a few summer memories to warm everyone up! This picture was taken in the middle of July in Phoenix when the weather was between 115 - 120 degrees. Where else would any kid be in the heat? In the pool of course!

Well, Isn't this cute? This was last weekend's artwork after a second weekend of snowy weather. My 9 yr old and I decided it was time to get busy and have fun in the snow! She gets the credit for the decorations, while I helped get her the snow to form! LOL.

Like most people, this year I am trying to eat healthier and am having a bit of trouble right now. I am trying to change my eating habits and had decided to finally try and add Tofu to my eating habits. Unfortunately, like most packaged foods, there are no handy recipes on the outside of the carton for me to be able to test it. I am not sure how to cook it and unsure if I can overcook it? I checked on-line and would really appreciate anyone's input on some tasty recipes for me to try that they like. So please feel free to share any yummy recipes! :)
